Her movement experiences range from the performative, to the educational, to the therapeutic, to the transformative.
Higher Education/Dance Artistic Experiences
Mary Hill holds a Doctorate in Dance History/Education from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA., along with a Women's Studies teaching certification. She was awarded the first Doctor of Philosophy Excellence in Scholarship Award in the Dance Department at Temple for her research on the Modernist influences of Primitivism, Dimensional Reality, and the Artist-As-Seer on Martha Graham's early dance practices, (Postmodern Reflections on Dance Modernism: Modernist Currents of Primitivism, Dimensional Reality, and the Artist-As-Seer on Martha Graham's "Heretic," "Lamentation," and "Primitive Mysteries.") While attending Temple she taught Ballet and Modern Dance. She received a Masters of Fine Arts at Texas Christian University under the tutelage of international choreographer, James Clouser, and Martha Graham Rehearsal Director, David Hochoy. She taught Modern Dance at TCU while attending. She was awarded Artist -In-Residence from the Texas Commission for the Arts. She has performed, choreographed, studied, and taught throughout the United States and internationally.
Most recently (2016-2018), earned a GYROTONIC® Teaching Accreditation and continues to study the method. (San Francisco 2017)
In 2015 completed the Thai Bodywork certification with Chuck Duff at Thai Bodywork, Chicago, ILL. (2012-2015), and has continued to study.
Studying two forms of Pilates, completed training and was certified in the Physical/Mind Method (1999-2001), and completed full Stott training (2003-2008).
480 hours of Yoga therapeutics, which include a 200 hour teacher certification with Tias Little at Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe 2001-2010). Studies include Yoga for Scoleosis with Elise Miller, Mind/Body Integration with Anodea Judith, and many other teachers.
Reiki Master Teacher Certification and Reki Master Practitioner Certification (2004-2008) from Chala Salcedo of the Usui Ryoho School of Natural Healing; a Reiki school of direct lineage from Mikao Usui's method originating in Japan and instituted by Hawayo Takata in the United States in 1938.
